COUNSELLING VISUALLY IMPAIRED PEOPLE , GIVING AWARENESS TO THE STUDENTS ABOUT JOB OPPORTUNITIES AND JAWS SOFTWARE THROUGH ARAVIND Hospital, MADURAI , COLLEGE , NGO.
He has a vision for the visually challenged people. Apart from finding  a job for himself in IBM, he wants to train the other visually challenged people so that they can stand on their own legs. His relentless efforts will bear fruit. He is ambitious in his effort in finding a job for the vis. He is selfless. He  spares his time and money for helping the vi. Having learnt JAWS software he tries to make other vis proficientin JAWS. As a medical transcription company we were trying to train some of the vis in JAWS so that they can stand on their own legs. Being a VI he is standing on his own legs by finding a suitable job in IBM.
He looksout for opportunity to help the VI in all ways. There are many NGOs for VIs. But they are following the conventional method of  teaching through Braille. Also they aim at getting them jobs as telephone operators, Office Assistants only. Whereas  Kamaraj is trying to train them in the latest sw and wants them to be self reliant.

Name: Murugan Subramanian: Competency Lead- Netsol, IBM.

I have been his informal mentor. Have been closely watching him day to day. He is capable of handling individual programs for any team with any type of disability He has got a strong social intelligence, has very sympathetic approach and a very good interpersonal skills despite his disability. He, apart from taking care of himself has a vision to enlighten the life of others.
Thus he stands apart as a role model. He is a self motivated individual. He will get energised more if such rewards/awards can be extended to such a great social worker. His confidence level and the vigour to help others can improve significantly. This will also give an example for others to start performing like kamaraj. I am blessed to have this opportunity to nominate such a suitable person. I wish him all the success.

Comments by Project Manager and Customer for performing well in account

Re: Fw: Availability of MEUHS DASD after move
Hello Shyam,
I wanted to convey to you my sincere gratitude for the hard work shown by Kamaraj throughout the MEUHS migration for RCMS.
This was a project that was painful because of the extremely short notice given to us. These migrations usually take between 3 to 6 months; from conception to delivery but we have had only a fraction of
that time.
Thank you Kamaraj

for working such long unsocial hours, with little notice. I understand that you are still relatively new in your role but despite this, you showed commitment and attended the many calls,
chased the outstanding items and drove work through to the required time lines.
Appreciate it very much!
Regards

Hello Shyam,
I have been dealing with Kamaraj within his change discipline role for over one year.  In this time, the has always been very responsive to requests and his communications have been second to none.
Without his dedication and commitment, the changes in the area of CCMS would be far more time consuming and difficult.  He is an asset to the team.
Regards, Rob

Very Good                Good                               Poor
Very Good                Good                               Poor

He is a very positive person. I  know that his disability does not prevent him from being of help to people. He has even cooked for me and brought the food for me when he came to visit me. I very touched by his gesture. He is very independent and has not allowed his visual impairment to affect his work nor his good spirit.

He has never given me the impression that life is a struggle, as he seems to be in good spirits even though he has  faced personal challenges recently. He only provides positive energy to all around.

He is always encouraging and has a permanent smile on his face. I don’t think if even a sighted person can be as positive as he is.
Told them that soon I will conduct cultural programs and they will be given surprise gifts.

6th Feb 2010:

Gone to one School called Pattu Poochi, where education is provided to all kind of disabled people. I checked what kind of tools and other stuffs they have. They personally requested me to provide them the computers, through which they can train the students with JAWS knowledge. So when they pass out of the school they will be trained well and will be easier for their higher education and will be prepared for self employment.
In all the above mentioned programs I highlighted three things which are important that is
1. Improve English knowledge in aspects of communications.
2. Concentrate in General Knowledge.
3. Importance of JAWS training.

Afternoon:

I went to Shanmugams NGO, where he has a hostel for disabled people. I met the students from 1st standard to college, and made them aware of job availabilities, told them to get the one word aptitude books and convert it to cassettes and get them trained.
Met with field workers of that NGO where they work in various parts of Tamilnadu. Made them aware of various category of VI, gave them tips to help people with low vision and total blindness. I also added that “All have very good future if they are properly trained”. So highlighted them where the educations are given and how to approach for jobs.
  • Now Trying to set up an computer center in Aravind Care Eye hospital(Madurai) , under Low Vision Dept. In that department we will be giving some basic ideas and trainings for the Patient who is coming in for checkups. The benefits of that plan will be helpful for the patients to understand about the JAWS      software and the job availability, that will be helpful in giving more confidence to the patient who is coming in. This can be cross checked with mr Ilango head of Low Vision dept(ilango@aravind.org).
  • The objectives of my centre will be as follows:
Short time Goals:
1. To rehabilitate and empower the visually impaired with employment and dignity in the society. To improve their earning potential in general.
2. To help visually impaired people to develop good communication skills.
3. Make them good in Job Access with speech software which enables them to work with computers.
4. Providing study materials, tuition centers and appointing good mentors for VI.
5. Arranging for various competitive exams and provide other skills.
6. Arrange necessary training sessions to VI people to help them to lead their life independently.
7. Providing Job opportunities to the VI persons.
8. Arranging for medical help and guidance for preserving the existing health condition of the visually impaired people.
9. Arranging for supplying necessary equipment to the VI persons; similar help may be rendered to the other disabled persons also.

Future Plans are as followsLLong time Goals)
